Nguvball is an innovative and exciting sport that originated in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This unique game has quickly gained popularity and is played with the hands, where the objective is to score points by throwing the ball into a bucket. The first teams to adopt this sport were Goma City and Goma United, who initially played on sand before transitioning to concrete, intensifying the gameplay.
The Journey of Nguvball Players
As Nguvball players, we each have unique stories about how we joined our respective teams. Many of us were drawn to the energy and excitement surrounding the initial matches between Goma City and Goma United. These matches attracted numerous spectators, and during one particularly intense game, some enthusiastic onlookers expressed a desire to participate. We agreed to let them play a half-match—one half with Goma City and the other with Goma United. Their ability to quickly grasp the rules by closely observing the match was impressive, and to our surprise, they managed to defeat both teams. This unexpected victory led to the formation of the Tigres de Goma team. Since then, they have achieved victory after victory, becoming an unbeatable force in Nguvball. Their passion and determination culminated in winning the first official Nguvball competition, known as the Nguvball Champions.
Community Impact
The growth of Nguvball has not only provided an engaging sport for players but has also fostered a sense of community among participants. With its dynamic nature and inclusive spirit, Nguvball aims to inspire youth and offer a positive alternative to delinquency. We are excited about the future of Nguvball as it continues to evolve. Our vision is for this sport to be played not only in the DRC but also in the USA and around the world, integrating into various cultures and potentially becoming one of the most popular sports globally.
The testimonies of Nguvball players highlight the sport’s rapid growth and its ability to unite individuals through shared experiences. As we continue to promote Nguvball, we invite everyone to join us on this journey towards making it a beloved sport worldwide.
