Nguvball is an innovative sport that originated in the Democratic Republic of Congo, specifically in Goma.
It was created by Mbafumoya Dominique, a young Congolese with a remarkable sense of creativity. The first Nguvball game was played on sand, featuring two teams, marking the realization of Mbafumoya’s imaginative vision.
Evolution of the Game
As Nguvball developed, the playing surface transitioned from sand to concrete, introducing movable buckets where players must score to earn points. The game is played with six players per team, resulting in a total of twelve players on the field during matches, along with twelve substitutes (six for each team). From its humble beginnings with just two teams, Nguvball has expanded to include six teams and has successfully organized its first championship, known as the Nguvball Champions of Goma.
The inaugural champions were the Tigres de Goma, celebrated for their exceptional gameplay and strength.
